Laminar Flow Straddle Units (ESUS/D)
Esco Enterprise™ Laminar Flow Straddle Unit, Single/Double (ESUS/D) is the leading solution for industrial process protection. It is also suitable for large-scale industrial processes which typically require multiple units to be connected in an assembly line configuration.
Maintained with a vertical laminar flow of air, the unit is available in either single or double-sided models. In comparison to horizontal laminar flow designs, the vertical laminar airflow of the unit generates less turbulence around large pieces of equipment.
Esco Healthcare provides the highest quality of construction and manufactures a wide range of equipment for the most demanding cleanroom applications.
Applications
Cleanrooms, electronics assembly, semiconductors, pharmaceutical, aerospace, and medical devices industries
Mycology and food microbiology
Plant and mammalian cell culture
Clinical pharmacy and hospital use
Applications benefiting from the isolated work surface frame design which virtually eliminates vibration
Low noise
Quiet, reliable, permanently lubricated direct drive centrifugal blowers
Effective filtration system
Long-life HEPA filter/s are equipped for the supply airflow for sterile/aseptic work zone environment created for optimum product protection. Also, an additional disposable pre-filter on all models traps large particles in the inflow air prior to reaching the main filter, protecting it against damage and prolonging its life.
External Isocide™ antimicrobial powder coating
Esco antimicrobial coating on all painted surfaces minimizes contamination. Isocide eliminates 99.9% of surface bacteria within 24 hours of exposure.
Single/Dual and 4’/6’ configurations
Available in single, double, 1.2 (4’) and 1.8 meter (6’) models
Connectable units for large-scale processes
Multiple units may be connected for production line applications. Polycarbonate side panels are removable when multiple units are connected.
Reduced vibration
Units are floor-mounted with an optional stainless steel worktop isolated from the cabinet to reduce vibration and make the work zone easy to clean. The interior surface will not chip, rust or generate particles.
Excellent illumination
Built-in warm white, electronically ballasted, 5000k lighting provides excellent, zero-flicker, instant-start illumination of the work zone, effectively reducing operator fatigue.
Enhanced operator comfort
Transparent polycarbonate side panels enhance visibility and create a more comfortable work environment for the operator as opposed to conventional stainless steel or painted steel sides, while offering scratch and abrasion resistance, non-particulating properties, and easy decontamination.
Guaranteed cleanroom compatibility
All straddle unit components are cleanroom compatible and constructed from industrial-grade electrogalvanized steel, with maximum chemical resistance and enhanced durability to ensure a long service life.User-friendly controls
Reliable rocker switches control the fan and lights, a Minihelic™ gauge monitors operation, and built-in casters with leveling feet keep the unit mobile yet stable.

During operation, room air is drawn through the top of the straddle unit via a disposable polyurethane prefilter with 90% efficiency, trapping larger particles and increasing the life of the main filter
- The air is then forced evenly through the H14 HEPA filter with a typical efficiency of >99.995% at 0.3 micron particles, resulting in a unidirectional stream of clean air projected vertically over the internal work zone. All airborne contaminants are flushed and diluted, resulting in a particulate-free work environment.
The purified air then leaves the storage area across the entire open front of the straddle unit.
- A nominal filter face velocity of 0.45 m/s (90 fpm) ensures that there is sufficient number of air changes within the enclosed area of the straddle unit in order to maintain cleanliness.

What is the edge of Esco laminar flow straddle units?
Esco laminar flow clean benches are the premium selection for the discerning purchaser, offering a combination of value, high-quality construction, low operating noise levels, and a wide product range to suit all budgets, from the industry leader.
Since 1978, Esco has installed tens of thousands of laminar flow clean benches providing reliable protection for samples and work processes for wide-ranging applications.
What makes the Esco straddle unit, single/double (ESUS/D) suitable for sterile/aseptic processes?
The filtered air from the top of the unit is supplied through the main chamber of the clean bench in a vertical laminar (unidirectional) air stream before being exhausted through the front opening of the clean bench. This airflow pattern prevents inflow of room air and aids in facilitating a work zone suitable for sterile/aseptic processing.
What is the difference between the single and double models of ESUS/D?
In contrast to the single-sided laminar flow cabinets and benches, double-sided units are suitable for relatively larger scale of industrial applications. Esco straddle unit, double configuration provides dual access to the work zone and allows operators to work facing each other.
When required, roller or belt conveyors can be configured with the units to facilitate assembly operations.
